The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB) has decided to postpone all tournaments scheduled to be held this year.
This decision was taken in the wake of the latest spike in coronavirus cases and following and Health and Sports Ministry directives, SLVB secretary A.S. Nalaka said.
As a result, the Dialog President’s Gold Cup Volleyball Championship (Super League and Novices) which was scheduled to begin today have been postponed indefinitely. The finals of this tournament was to be held on November 28.
Meanwhile, the 2020 Volleyball Nationals which was to be conducted in November-December has also been postponed to next year. This includes the Munchee National Volleyball Championships and Sunquick Beach Volleyball National Championships.
The SLVB has also disbanded the men’s and women’s beach volleyball national pool which was training in preparation for next year’s Asian Beach Games and Asian Beach Volleyball Championship.
The national pool were training for the last two months at the Sugathadasa Stadium beach volleyball courts and NYSC beach volleyball pitch in Heiyanthuduwa.
The national pool comprised six men and six women players.
The SLVB hopes to conduct the volleyball tournaments once the situation in the country improves.
