Former Vidyartha, Kandy SC, Havelock SC, Dimbula Athletic and Cricket Club, one of the referees from Central Province, and former Technical Officer of Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union, Saman Edema passed away in Matale after a brief illness.

Saman, after leaving Vidyartha College, played for Kandy Sports Club in 1986 and 87. He played under Ashan Ratwatte, which comprised some top-class players such as Siva Subramaniam, Ikram Odayar, Tyrell Rajapakse, Ravi Ranasinghe, Ashan Ratwatte, Maurice Joachim, and Anil Jayasinghe. Saman was a founder member of the Central Province Referees Society as well.

His funeral took place in Matale two days ago.
