An unbeaten 114 inclusive of six boundaries and two sixes by Sanesh Fernando for St. Sebastian’s College and a 73 with nine boundaries by Tharindu Amarasinghe for Prince of Wales were the highlights of the first day’s play in the 73rd Battle of the Golds big match played at De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa.
Fernando was involved in two valuable partnerships, first of an opening wicket stand of 54 runs with Adesh Almeida and the other of 63 runs for the fourth wicket with skipper Sandeesh Fernando, to help St. Sebastian’s taking first lease of the wicket to make a score of 219 for 7 in the 60 overs of batting that is allotted per team for the first innings.
