Sri Lanka clinched the third position in the South Asian Kurash Championship held from April 19th to 21st in Cochin, Kerala, India. The championship, which saw participation from five nations, witnessed intense bouts and strategic maneuvers as athletes vied for supremacy in the ancient Central Asian sport.
Amidst stiff competition, Sri Lanka's contingent showcased exceptional skill and resilience, earning accolades for their remarkable performance. Led by a team of talented Kurash practitioners, Sri Lanka emerged as a formidable force, claiming several podium finishes across different weight categories.
Among the standout performers for Sri Lanka were Shelon Wijerathna, Roosiru Senarathna, and Dilsha Deshani, who secured second place in their respective weight divisions. Wijerathna and Senarathna, competing in the junior category at 50kg and 80kg respectively, exhibited remarkable technique and determination throughout the championship. Deshani, competing at 80kg in the senior category, demonstrated exceptional skill and resilience, earning well-deserved recognition for her performance.
