Sri Lanka are set to host two legs of the Asia Rugby Sevens Tournaments according to Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) President Rizly Illyas.
“We have been in discussions with Asia Rugby and they have given us the opportunity to host two legs of the Asia Rugby Sevens Tournaments,” Rizly Illyas told Daily Mirror.
However, under the prevailing conditions with regard to Covid-19, hosting tournaments of this magnitude looks to be a tall order.
“Obviously it would be challenging, but with years of experience in this field and organizing huge tournaments, I am very confident that we could have these tournaments which without any doubt would help Sri Lanka rugby to develop. However, we all understand clearly that we need the guidance of the Sports Ministry as well as the Health Ministry because of the pandemic. I am hoping that they will provide us with the appropriate guidelines. This is important for rugby in this country because we just cannot sit back and wait,” said the SLR President.
