St. Peter’s College Bambalapitiya, one of the leading rugby playing schools in the island, sounded a warning to opponents winning their first match of the Dialog Under 19 inter-schools rugby league tournament, brushing off the challenge of Royal College.

The Peterites, led by Ashain Madugasge, will hope this is a sign of things to come this season, in their attempt to bring back the glory days after this dismal season last year during which they chalked up just one win.

Known as the Bamba Brigade, St. Peter’s posses a well-balance side and they have in their ranks nine players who represented the school last season.

With one of the most experienced coaches Sanath Martis and his assistants guiding the boys, they are for sure going to be a side to be reckoned with and contenders for the title.

The skipper will pin hopes in Sudesh Jayawickrama who led the side last year, Vindya de Mel, Kushan Tharindu, Dulaj Navodya, Sadev Gamage and Umeth Shihara to name a few in the quest for to achieve their title win and to guide the side to their past glory.

Apart from the coaching staff the boys are given the much-needed support and encouragement by Samson Roy, the newly elected President of St. Peter’s Rugby Foundation who took over from the versatile Mangala Dharmapriya.

The Peterites last won the league title in 2010 when the champion team was guided by Martis.
