Sugath appointed Deputy Sports Minister

Former Sri Lanka Olympian Sugath Thilakaratne will assume duties as the Deputy Sports Minister of the National People’s Power (NPP) Government at the Sports Ministry in Colombo today at 10.00 a.m.

The 51-year-old from Norton Bridge, represented Sri Lanka at two Olympic Games in 1996 (Atlanta) and 2000 (Sydney) and is also an Asian Games Gold Medallist (Bangkok, 1998). 

Thilakarathne hails from Vidulipura MV and still holds the 400m record in the Asian Athletics Championship, South Asian Games and Sri Lanka, with a personal best of 44.61 seconds.

Later, he served as president of Sri Lanka Athletics from 2015 to 2017. (SP)
