Tharushi, Malith crowned best athletes

Hangzhou Asian Games Gold Medalist Tharushi Karunarathna of A. Rathnayaka National School, Walala, and Asian Junior Athletic Championship Bronze Medalist Malith Yasiru of Kahawatta MMV, Kahawatta, won the Best Athlete Awards of the All Island Schools Games Athletic Championships 2023 held in Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo.
23 new meet records were set at the competition conducted by the Ministry of Education.
Tharushi won the U-20 Girls' 400 metres, clocking 53.21 seconds, while Malith won the U-20 Boys' Triple Jump Distance, recording a distance of 15.93 metres.
Maris Stella College, Negombo, and Lyceum IS, Wattala, won the overall boys' and girls' championships, respectively. (Susil Premalal)
