Trinity book berth to final in style

Trinity booked the berth to the final of Under 19 Division One Tier ‘A” segment two day cricket tournament in style when they chalked up a comfortable outright win by seven wickets over Maliyadeva College Kurunegala in the semi final encounter concluded at the Ace Capital CC ground in Kirimandala Mawatha today.

The second day’s play saw Trinity in reply to the Devans score of 139 resuming from their overnight score of 106 for 2 going on to make 199 for a lead of 60 runs.

Maliyadeva batting the second time saw Trinity’s bowling pair Tharana Wimaladharma and Jayavi Liyanagama too hot to handle as they collapsed to a score of 54 for 6 and they never recovered as Wimaladharmawho ended with a match bag of eight wickets cleaned off the tail to bundle them out for 99 which left Trinity a simple run chase of 40 runs which they achieved with ease.

Meanwhile St Joseph’s booked the other final berth of the same division when they came out on top against St. Benedict’s in the other semi final played at S. Thomas’ ground in Mt Lavinia which ended in a draw.

St. Joseph’s resuming from their overnight score of 294 for 3, declared their innings having made a formidable score of 439 for 7 and St. Benedict’s in their turn was on 81 for 6 when the match was called off due to bad light that ended in bonus points win for St Joseph’s.

St. Servatius Matara too made it to the final of the Under 19 Division One Tier ‘B’ segment by virtue of gaining bonus points in a high scoring semi final encounter against Mahinda Galle played at Maggona.
