St. Peter’s International Under 20 Rugby 7’s
The UTA Australia rugby team came out victorious with ease in the final of the St. Peter’s Invitational Under 20 Rugby 7’s when they outclassed host St. Peter’s by 40 points to 5 in the final played at the St. Peter’s Sports Complex in Bambalapitiya to emerge champions.
The champion team led by Aden Ekanayake proved to be too good as they chalked up a comfortable 21-5 lead at the breather.
But host St. Peter’s led by Ashton Madugasge the reigning schools league and knock-out champions though having to play second fiddle could no doubt be satisfied as they had the honor of ending up as runners up in the tournament organized by St. Peter’s in conjunction with the centenary celebrations of the St. Peter’s.
Earlier in the day in the semi final encounters the champion UTS Australia team overcame Gordon RFU another team from Australia while St. Peter’s got the better of D.S. Senanayake College.
Zahira College Colombo was the only local team to bag a title when they emerged champions of the Bowl segment by defeating Thurstan while Dubai College ‘A’ clinched the Plate defeating Negeri Sembilan RU Malaysia.
The tournament saw the participation of five overseas and nine local teams and Royal who had originally given their consent of participation pulled out. (M. Shamil Amit)
