The Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) is currently on a mop up operation of the Sri Lanka Society of Rugby Football Referees (SLSRFR) and in its first move has taken back firm control by appointing an interim Committee headed by Chula Dharmadasa.
In a hurried meeting that took place yesterday between the new Interim Committee and the existing committee members of the referees’ society also amidst some very senior referees, the meeting turned out to have reached a very amicable outcome with promising and positive results in the pipeline.
Mahesh Senanayake the current Secretary of the Sri Lanka Society of Rugby Football Referees speaking to the “Daily Mirror” after the meeting went on to say, “The plans that the Interim Committee has for the referees society is one which appears to be very ambitious and on paper looks brilliant. The Interim Committee hopes to infuse people of great repute to hold the reins of the referees’ society and lay focus on the further development of these important officials who handle the whistle. The Interim Committee hopes to speak to the entire membership in the coming days and also introduced a system where referees will be selected based on performance and selected on merit. They did also confirm that the current referees’ society’s funds exceeding Rs7.5 million at the Hatton National Bank will be utilized to up skill and increase competency levels in further developing the referees,” concluded Senanayake.
“Amdist all the hue and cry when rumour had it that an Interim Committee was taking over, it seems that sanity finally prevails, the smooth transition of power taken place and the focus is laid on the greater good of the sport of rugby football,” commented Nalin De Silva, Secretary of the SLRFU and current Interim Committee member.
