The market ended on negative territory today with ASI and MPI losing 6.26 points (-0.09%) and 33.83 points (-0.53%) to close at 6,991.60 and 6,293.65 respectively. Market turnover stood at LKR 2.9bn

John Keells Holdings Plc (JKH) emerged as the top contributor (LKR 440.7mn) to the day’s turnover with c.2.0mn shares trading in 6 crossings at a price of LKR 215.0. JKH closed at LKR 217.0, down by LKR 1.50 (-0.69%). In addition Ceylon Theaters Plc - CTHR (LKR 283.8mn) and Renuka Agri (LKR 283.5mn) made notable contributions to the daily turnover.  1.4mn shares of CTHR changed hands in two off-the-floor deals at a price of LKR 200.0. JKH closed at LKR 198.0, up by LKR 2.00 (+1.0%).
 
Further retail activity was seen in counters such as Renuka Agri, East West Properties Plc and Blue Diamonds Jewellery Plc – non voting.
 
Foreign participation continued to be on the high side at 13.0% of the total market activity and at the end of the day foreign investors were the net sellers with a net foreign outflow of LKR 150mn.
