Market turnover tops Rs.8bn

The market ended encouragingly positive today while displaying notable level of turnover. Furthermore during the day several rallies were depicted on counters such as Colonial Motors PLC (up Rs.64.40), Acme Printing & Packaging Plc (up Rs.4.00).

The market turnover was significant at a year to date high of Rs.8.8bn.
 
Hayleys Plc (Rs.2.7bn) made the strongest contribution to the daily turnover followed by Amaya Leisure Plc (Rs.2.6bn) and Colombo Land & Development Plc (Rs.594.4mn). Hayleys Plc recorded seven off-the-floor deals of 7.0mn shares at a price of Rs.380.00 while Amaya leisure posted five crossings of Rs.24.5mn at a share price of Rs. 107.00.
 
Meanwhile Acme Printing Plc, Multi Finance Plc and Singer Finance Plc traded heavily during the day. Furthermore 3.5mn shares of ACME which accounted for almost 13% of the issued quantity, traded at a price of Rs. 24.00, depicting high volatility trading of the counter. ACME rallied to a high of Rs.34.60 and closed at Rs.27.10 (+Rs.4.00).
 
Foreign participation was low at 2.40% of the total market activity. At the end of the day foreign investors were the net sellers with a net foreign outflow of Rs.65.0mn
