Food Studio
Food Studio is one food court that is suitable for everything, from a family outing, to a date or even just to hang out with your friends pigging out on some street food and juices. If you have any trouble deciding where to go, fret no more! Food Studio is the perfect place to go.
When my colleague, Amantha and I walked in to Food Studio, we were so spoilt for choice, we didn’t know where to begin from. Do we start with Japanese cuisine and then indulge in Chinese, Indian, Turkish and Sri Lankan? Yes, Amantha and I are both foodies and we can eat a lot! We finally tossed a coin and decided to explore Cheeseheads; a kiosk serving burgers.
We both ordered Beef Burgers and dived straight into it. Oh My God! I was in burger-heaven! I’m still salivating thinking about it, whilst writing this article. It was heavenly; not too oily or greasy, and not too small either. It was the right size and the beef patty was grilled to perfection. Oh, and did I mention that it comes topped up with four different kinds of cheese? That’s right, you heard me, it comes with FOUR types of cheese. The entire burger was just oozing with cheese. Amantha, almost kissed his burger before wolfing it down. The burgers were accompanied by a generous portion of spiral-shaped French fries and a side portion of a home-made sauce. It really was the perfect Beef Burger and I highly recommend it. The entire meal (Burger and Fries) was priced at Rs. 1,050 and with all that cheese, this price was well-worth it.

Our next dish was by Shiok and it was a Hainanese Chicken Rice meal priced at Rs. 800. The chicken was soft, juicy and tender. The rice was full of flavor and the condiments complemented the meal perfectly. It was a simple yet flavorful, wholesome dish, which was quite enjoyable. It wasn’t a heavy meal, which was perfect for us because we had just polished off our Beef Burgers and Fries at Cheeseheads. Hainanese cuisine was something new to us and hence, we quite enjoyed trying it out. I must also mention the soup that accompanied our meal; it was a warm, tangy chicken broth and sipping on it made us both feel quite calm, it had a soothing effect on our stomachs! It helped us eat more, which, we of course did.

Good Thai food is a bit tricky to find in Colombo, hence we were both eager to try Suksamran Thai as our next meal. Sawadee Ka! We were transported to the bustling streets of Bangkok (Yes, the food was so good that Amantha and I quietly sat day-dreaming about Bangkok!)
If the Aunty at the next table hadn’t screamed loudly on the phone in Sinhala, Amantha and I would have happily continued daydreaming about Thailand. The food was that good. The Thai Prawn set menu which I tried was priced at Rs. 1,200 and it came with Steamed Rice, KangKung and Thai Prawns; the perfect trio! The prawns were sweet and spicy, the perfect blend. The meal was accompanied with a sauce that had floating pieces of green chili and being the adventurous daredevils we were, we poured the entire sauce over our rice. What an interesting flavor that created when mixed with the prawns and the greens.

We could barely breathe after the end of our Thai meal, but we challenged ourselves to try one more dish. We unanimously voted for the Peri Peri Chicken from Thalappakatti. We were surprised to find this dish at an Indian Restaurant as Peri Peri Chicken is a dish with roots in both Africa and Portugal. Priced at Rs. 977 this dish was worth every penny. The seasoning was expertly done and the sauces, one sweet and one spicy, was spot on. The chicken was oozing with flavor and it was a real treat to chew on. This dish is pure eye-candy. It looks good and tastes great; made with pure love.
Consistency is key when it comes to food and all the Food Studio outlets we tried, have proven just that. This is by far the best Food Court in Sri Lanka. It really is the perfect one-stop shop for everyone who appreciates delicious, good food.
