Presidential secretariat budget difference is around 92,000 million rupees.annual increase for state employees is 12x10,000=120,000Rs92,000 million/120,000=760,000. It means , presidential secretariat budget difference would bee nought to pay the 10.000 pay rise for 760,000 state sector employees. It seems MR spent it lavishly without giving it out Just like his own money.

Great budget proposals and give relief from high cost of living. Need to keep the real inflation rate under control. Hope the present government maintain good transparency and good governance for which people gave mandate to MR. Only good think MR did was get rid off LTTE and stopped the war ... but brought the country to bad state . Let get together and think that we Srilankans want this wonderful country to prosper and be patriotic rather divide and live. Work harder.

EDB CESS funds created by Late Lalith Athulathmudali was the driving force of Export Growth work implemented by EDB (also created by Athulatmudali) at that time. It is Exporters created at that time that account for major portion of export income even today. Exports do not deserve step motherly treatment. 2. Remove PAYEE tax burden (introduced by previous regime) from public servants

If you read the budget carefully the answer is there! Chiefly, [1] Cut down wasteful expenses eg. Expenses of presidential secretariat reduced from 104970 million to 2560 million.[2] Tax those who have not paid tax before eg Sports Channel, vehicle assembly plants[3]make unprofitable mega businesses profitable eg Mihin Lanka

Senior Citizens given a raw deal. Although Nivard Carbral is the culprit to cause this disaster, the interim budget is following the steps of this rogue Nivard Cabral. !5% on the first Million - Can al Senior Citizen live on 12,500/- per Month? A retiring Senior Citizen usually have a minimum of Rs.5,Mn which they deposit in interest earning instruments so that they can live a life imposing no burden on anybody. The Budget has not specified as to the interest rates applicable to anything above 1 Million. Please tell us how the hell are the Senior Citizens going to survive?

The age limit for Senior Citizens was 55 years previously. Under the new Regime it has been considered to increase the Bank interest rate for the Senior Citizens as 60 yrs. Therefore, those who retired at the age of 55 years have been deprived of this facility. If the age limit of 55 years to be considered as Senior Citizens for another few years , it will be a great relief for their existence.

I am favor of this Budget as certain prices were obscure in the past. However i feel the present government does not favor our sri lankan business owners. Especially in the export/import department. For instance the EU has currently banned imports of fish from sri lanka and our local markets are being flooded with fish which danger our local fisherman as prices go down. But the the current fisheries minister has reduced can imports and imports from maldives. Due to that many sri lankan fisheries business will fall and employment will fall in those sectors as it willl be too competitive to go head on with other brands for a lesser price. I feel this government needs balance. Not only keep the people happy but also business owners. Whatever said and done it is much better than the previous administration where only one family gained. But now that we have a new and better administration i wish it the very best but to also think of the sri lankan business as they provide employment and stability. ithink that the import prices should go higher on cans so that our local factories can use our own sri lankan fish to can rather than importing cheap unhealthy fish from china/taiwan and other countries when sr lanka has the best fish. I hope the daily mirror writes about this fact so the word will spread and so that business and people can all prosper. The reason i used our fisheries department is because we have over a miillion fisherman in our county and i think the new fisheries minister thinks just by bringing prices down he willl gain more support. true the people will be grateful but over time more fisherman will have to look for other jobs beccause out local factories wont purchase our fish because it will be too expensive. ANyway this is just my opinion i agree that certain prices need to come down but not the ones that will benifit our country and people.

5000 Sq. Ft. is not a Mansion or 100 Mn Friday, 30 January 2015 08:50 AM
A 5,000 sq.ft. house is far from a mansion. There is a huge difference between a house that is worth Rs 100 Mn and a house that is the size of 5,000 Sq.Ft. I think the government should re-look at this proposal.

If this is a good budget than the previous Government must have done the right thing for you to produce a good budget. Otherwise this new government will not be able to spend lavishly. So stop the witch hunt and revenge and be truthful. The last five years the country have improved tremendously. Good roads and infastructure. Budget expenditure and income can be made transparent .8.8 trillion debts? Hedging USD 60 mil.? Lowest financial disciple ? To be audited this exegerated estimates.

Mansion tax of Rs. I Million per annum is ridiculous. ( Rs.83333/= per month) It will be better to sell the house, re-invest the money in something more beneficial and rent one instead. Minister, please re-think and cancel this. You too will be affected by this as you own a mansion., but you can afford it. Why should a house owner be penalized to this degree for having worked hard and built a house over 5000 sq. ft. ? Also please remember that a house in the suburbs , although over 5000 sq. ft. has less value than a house, even, smaller, in Colombo - 7 Some apartments in prime areas, though very much less than 5000 have a much higher value than a house of over 5000 sq. ft in the suburbs, and they will be exempt from this exorbitant and unreasonable tax.

Increased in Hybrid duty and purchase vehicle Import permit at 1.5m is very unfair, because all lower middle class people start buying brand new class vehicle at reasonable cost by-passing all unfair importers (scroungers), now Ravi K has support these plunders by increasing duties of Hybrid from 57% 80% which subsequently increased vehicle by Rs.500k to 700k which gives scroungers abnormal return for the vehicle they already stoked at sale stations and imposing import permit to make them a market by cutting off all individual importers those who import one vehicle for their own use. These so called scrounger vehicle importers are the one funding candidates and parties in elections.

The private sector employees are getting an increment of Rs 2,500 that means around Rs 75,- per day. I think this amount should be increased according to the living cost of people. But what about the non-permanent employees? Arent they humans or citizens of this country.Did you consider about the Middle-Class Man? Rising cost of housing in the cities. Is there a Rent Control Board? What have they done to the people? Why are they always lenient towards Landlords who throw Tenants out of their homes after one year to get higher rents. When is this going to stop? Why cannot you control the House Rents? Is it so difficult? The next time you vote for someone please consider this point. Tnx brothers!
