11- party alliance calls for interim govt. followed by election



The 11- party alliance today called for President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to form an interim government to face the current problems confronting the country.

Addressing a press conference,  National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa said an economic plan should be worked out with the consensus of all the parties representing people in Parliament. Afterwards, he said a new Cabinet should be appointed in terms of the Constitution to implement them.

The Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) leader Udaya Gammanpila said an election should be declared after the formation of an interim government.  He charged that the government was planning to spend US $ 7 billion for debt servicing despite people being in hunger and darkness without electricity.

He said the government should stop debt repayment. (Kelum Bandara)
