Colombo, July 31 (PMD) - A group of 116 former Provincial Council members from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the United National Party (UNP) pledged their commitment to support President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the upcoming Presidential election, according to the President’s Media Division.

The PMD reported yesterday that ninety-two Members of Parliament met with President Ranil Wickremesinghe, pledging their support.

The 116 PC can give only a moral support to RW for Presidential Poll. But these 116 will see their fate when it comes to Parliament and PC election. What prevents them from joining another leader/alliance? They know where the wind blows and the numbers to work with and there is a real chance of winning a closely contested election, where no candidate is going to secure 50% outright. Do not presume anything and those who entered the race earlier and made noises are dwindling.There is still a large segment of undecided voters.
