12 trains disrupted due to technical failures

Colombo, September 11 (Daily Mirror) - A total of 12 trains have been temporarily taken out of service due to technical faults, the Railways Department said.

The Railways Department stated that 12 railway power sets have been removed from operation and sent to the railway yard in Ratmalana for repairs.

However, the Department said that due to the lack of technical personnel, the repair work has been delayed.

Some of the power sets have to be condumed. The wheels and the frames are in very bad delappitaded condition. Last 10 years no maintenance and the Railway management was only following ministers instructions and not using their skills.

The trains are in a perpetual state of dysfunction, constantly breaking down. It’s not just the power sets at fault, but the entire cadre of incompetents who are systematically derailing the system with no regard for the dire plight of commuters. It is truly lamentable that successive governments lack the courage to take decisive action to overhaul Sri Lanka Railways, fearing the inevitable strikes. This ongoing failure creates a vacuum, leaving the door open for foreign governments to intervene and potentially acquire control of the nation's railway system.

How could they not see this coming? Total mismanagement. Why keep sending parts to the yard if there are not enough workers to repair? Hire the staff first to expedite repairs and keep the trains moving. At this rate just import workers from India or hand the entire railway system to India to operate. They will do a more efficient job. Our people are too inept.
