Colombo, August 17 (Daily Mirror) - President Ranil Wickremesinghe kicked off his campaign today by revealing that 18 creditor nations have offered USD 18 billion loan concession.
Speaking during his inaugural Presidential election rally, President Wickremesinghe said 18 nations have offered concession from due interest.
"We have to keep the IMF agreement and also the agreement with the creditors intact to receive the cinsessions offered by the creditors," he said.

How To Pay These Loans Sunday, 18 August 2024 05:27 PM
Tissa the anti NPP person :)! You encourage loans but any solution in paying them? The issue with Ranil is not curtailing corruption and having high government expenditures such as ensuring politicians, senior officers in the forces and other government agencies get perks and privileges beyond the government’s ability. Developments which are not urgent is also another cause of overspending resulting in endless loans being taken.

If you so confident about this allegation then file a case against them in the Supreme Court. But you cannot because all what you say is what you hear from NPP. Do you know the total cost of economic damage due to NPP subotage activities over several decades. It will be in Billions of Dollars.

So how is the NPP going to manage without taking loans? I hear they want to reduce taxes too. Sounds wonderful if you are too dumb to think. The NPP plan is like Sirima's 70s era. The trouble is that most younger generation were not born then. Therefore they get carried away with this type of economic rubbish.

NPP will bring Sri Lanka to permanent bankruptcy. We need a leader who can manage the economy in these very difficult times.

Securing loans is a great achievement Saturday, 17 August 2024 06:47 PM
There we go again. Loan after loan; never ending. All SLs are exalted. All must vote for RW so that our children's and grandchildren's inheritance will be the debts we leave behind. Great governance.

Don’t care about monuments Saturday, 17 August 2024 06:50 PM
Why SL bothering about these monuments? There are statues, monuments of all the people all over the world. 50% of the population against these monuments and 50% for it. Why should SL waste its time for a monument in a far away place as Canada? Probably nothing better for this foreign minister to do. He, I am told will be out after September 21 st 2024.

But this is more borrowing and consumption. Artificially we have surplus by increased taxes on the whole population and reduced imports. All this is artificial. Real economic growth not addressed by Ranil. All this looks only for his political survival for another 5 years and then we will be in a real mess.

Yours and Previous Regimes Created This Debt Issue Over The Decades Saturday, 17 August 2024 07:48 PM
You fellas created this loans issues by over spending on your luxury lifestyle and excessive amounts on unnecessary projects. Didn’t follow or create a proper Budget and kept on spending and borrowing like there is no tomorrow. You also didn’t control corruption and bringing to justice those involved in it. Now bragging and seems proud that you are able to get new 10 Billion dollars loans and the next generations paying for it too. Definitely will benefit your kind and most citizens will continue suffering similarly over the decades with substandard healthcare and transportation facilities. Always waiting and begging from developed countries for complimentary facilities and funds. The budgeted funds for these projects are than spent on huge security forces to protect your fellow so called politicians. Have your government to gather an overseas team of auditors to check on the governments expenditure and see the amount of corruption going on.

Postponing Old Loan Payments And Seeking New Loans- Ranil’s Legacy Saturday, 17 August 2024 08:04 PM
Ranil’s same old rhetoric is good for postponing loan repayments and creating new loan deals. Also notbringing to justice on those corrupted people and unresolved murder cases. That will be his legacy!

There is a thing called investments, which brings foreign money and creates jobs for local and can earn export revenue too. But investors dont come to a country controlled by crooks like Ranil and the clan.

HAS NOT PAID THE LOANS AND MOST OF THE INTEREST YET. Sunday, 18 August 2024 02:27 AM
That’s means accepting the current regime which is corrupt to the core. These current and previous regimes brought this crisis to the forefront with no proper accountability, planning and most full of corrup. And now asking the people to joint hands to assist in clearing up the mess and these so called politicians living the good lives with their families and selected people. Majority of the population is struggling and stressed up. NPP with a professional younger team and mindset will definitely take time to sort out this crisis and bring about austerity changes to everyone. If not, year after year, new loans are taken to pay old loans and their never ending interest. Remember, SL is still Bankrupt and Ranil has only arranged loan repayments after 2027. He HAS NOT PAID THE LOANS AND MOST OF THE INTEREST YET. The way majority of the comments about Ranil is able to resolved the crisis is just plain wrong as he’s only arranged a deal with IMF to delay loan and interest payments.

Only Sri Lankans vote for loans, free goodies, discounted bread, free chewing gum, cooking gas and the like. Expand your horizons, dear voters. These are 1970s election gimmicks elsewhere. They have moved on.

It’s you and your friends who created this loan and the economic situation, with corruption, bribery commissions etc., They all became rich themselves. What actions been taken to recover these money and actions against them. So far, nothing.

SL has fallen well behind most 3rd world countries in terms of development. Solely due to successive generations of family politics and incompetent people in governance. However, the time has come to bring the educated younger generation to lead our nation and retire the self-serving dinosaurs that have caused so much misery for our people.

Define "concessions". The devil is in the details so it would be appropriate to publish the amendments in full for tax payers to know what they are being faced with in the future when all these concessions expire.

In fact what is the actual percentage use for development ? What is the actual cost ? Considering all , very little goes for development. Still struggling to complete the Central highway. Better to give it to any loan donor country to build the central highway on BOT model. Similarly any large scale project IMF should monitor where the funds are utilise.
