18 passengers hospitalised after bus accident

A total of 18 persons have been injured following a bus accident in the Utuwankanda area on the Kandy-Colombo main road, police said.

They said a private bus and a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus collided head-on this morning.

The injured were admitted to the Mawanella Hospital.

Kegalle Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.

WHY NOT STILL NOT CONTROL THE BUS DRIVERS. WHEN C. T. B. STARTED I 1980 HOW WAS THE DRIVERS BEHAVIOR. NO SPEED. NO OVER TAKING UNWANTED PLACE BUS WILL STOP ONLY BUS HALTING PLACE. PASSENGERS WILL STAY ONLY BUS HALTING PLACE ONLY. MORE AREA FOR AT BUS STOP PLACE. SUPERVISOR ROUND THE CLOCK CHECK THESE ALL. BUSES VERY NEATLY AND CLEAN.PRESENTLY EVERY THING UP AND DOWN. OLD PARLIAMENTARIAN CROOKS SPOILED THE SYSTEM.

No control of speed of these bus drivers resulted in losing so many innocent lives. These issues have been reported widely previously including some foreign YouTube channels but no action so far. Some bus drivers are also very often driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and some without any breaks. Some regulations on speed awareness and road safety with higher fines and penalty points are required urgently

The deadly driving practices of Sri Lanka's bus drivers is another thing the new government must look into asap. Fleets of private busses are owned by politicians and top cops and this has been the predominant reason nothing has been done to remedy this problem so far.

Absolute indiscipline with Bus Drivers. It takes anyone to stand on the road for 5 minutes to see the unlawful behavior of buses plying on the road blasting their horns, swerving from left to right and driving in the most uncomfortable style never driven by any driver in another country that carries passengers. The Police are no where to be seen and even if they are on the road, they care less. This is why, we are still a country primitive and behaving like monkeys. This is our true culture.
