22 Lankans sent to Papua New Guinea



A group of 22 Sri Lankan nationals who arrived by boat to Australia were transferred to Papua New Guinea (PNG) on Thursday, the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) said.

It said that the charter flight, escorted by the Australian Federal Police, DIAC staff, interpreters and medical staff, departed Christmas Island on Ttursday evening.
The group arrived in PNG today and was transferred to the regional processing centre where they will be accommodated while the PNG Government processes their refugee claims, it added.
