27 injured in head-on collision

At least 27 people were injured after a bus collided head on with a lorry in Digithawa, Wariyapola this evening, police said.

The injured persons were admitted to the Kurunegala and Wariyapola hospitals. The condition of six persons were said to be critical, hospital sources said.

This is like the second or third this week, I guess. This is turning into a regular show, like a tv series. Unless the transport minister does anything to stop this, this is going to stop being a breaking news. Off the top of my head, you could simply... SIMPLY warn bus and tuk drivers to drive by following all the rules else they should be fined 5000 bucks on the spot with a night in jail and suspension of their license for six months. Believe me, you will see the most perfect rules following drivers in the world in Lanka, if a law such as that was introduced. via DM Android App

Lorris carry sand fly on roads.. Long distence run busses also.. same... They don't care about other Road usesrs because their vehicles big and they treat to Police because they always use same roads. ploice need cases so they catch and giving Fine ticket to out of province. .. They check No. plate from which province vehicles coming.. if it out of there area they try to give PODI DADAYAK GEWALA YANNA MAHATTAYO..... So its the way they do their duty... But very few officers are there they do job honastly.. We salute them too. via DM Android App

Deploy all Traffic cops on the road for a week to check on speeding buses/lorries, three wheelers who are law unto themselves and check on drivers for drugs and consumption of liquor. Instead of clearing roads for VVIPs and issue dhada koleys on drivers from outside the province. Also law breakers know that there are no dhada kola karayas during lunch breaks and meal times. They congregate in a hotel/take away joint for a " Summa Diet". The period can reviewed on a regular basis. via DM iPad app
