32 foreigners rescued off eastern sea

A group of 32 Myanmar nationals stranded in a vessel off eastern Sri Lanka has been rescued by the Sri Lanka Navy this afternoon.

Navy Spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasriya speaking to Daily Mirror online said the search and rescue operation was carried out by a Navy ship named ‘Sagara’ that set sail from Galle yesterday upon receiving news of the stranded vessel.

The vessel had been located at 2.30 pm today, 250 nautical miles off Sangamankanda point.

"Four among the rescued group are in critical condition and the necessary medical treatments are being provided at present," Commander Warnakulasuriya added.

The ship is expected to reach Galle Port by tomorrow afternoon. (LP)
