Lankans report during amnesty

More than 4500 Sri Lankan residing in Kuwait without visa have reported to the Sri Lankan High Commission during the amnesty period given by the Kuwaiti government for immigrants, Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFEB) said.

According to SLFEB the Kuwaiti Government had announced an amnesty period of March to July for all the illegal immigrants and as a result of that these people had come to the Sri Lankan High Commission hoping to return to Sri Lanka legally.

The SLFEB said that the high commission was making arrangements to repatriate the Sri Lankans who came seeking to benefit from the amnesty period. Sri Lankans with expired visa, cancelled visa or loss of travelling documents can benefit due to the amnesty since they won’t be fined or penalized, the SLFEB said.

The Kuwaiti Government had extended the amnesty on all nationalities and they will not proceed with legal action, the SLFEB said. (Sumaiya Rizvi)
