A total of 79 persons had been arrested for violating the quarantine curfew following an operation carried out yesterday where the quarantine curfew was imposed, Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said today.
He said the Police quarantine curfew, which has been imposed in 18 Police Divisions in the Gampaha District, would continue until further notice.
Moreover, 18 motorcycles and one three-wheeler were taken into custody for violating the quarantine curfew until this morning.
He requested the general public in the areas to limit their movement and to stay at homes until further notice.
It was reported that a few people used to act against quarantine laws disturbing the health officials to bring people to quarantine centres, he said.
“Stern action will be taken against such persons," he said.
He said that vehicles passing through curfew imposed areas must not stop for whatever the reason and the pickup or dropping people in those areas was also prohibited.
He said that there was no need for a curfew pass for people who need to get medical treatment from hospitals for illnesses other than suspected Covid-19 symptoms.
“However, persons with COVID-19 symptoms should stay at home and inform the nearest Police station,” he said.
“The Police will provide with the required medicines along with an ambulance," he said.
“No restrictions were made on persons in a house to conduct in agricultural activities and cleaning their gardens,” the DIG Rohana added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
