9000 Lankans to return home

About 9000 Sri Lankans in Kuwait are expected to return to Sri Lanka under the general amnesty period granted for foreign nationals by the Kuwait Government, Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) said today.

SLBFE Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka speaking to Daily Mirror Online said that about 1000 Sri Lankans arrive at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait these days. “We are currently in the process of preparing their exit permits. Once the permits are prepared they will be able to return to Sri Lanka,” he added.

The amnesty period which was announced a few days ago is due to expire in June and applies to foreigners in Kuwait facing minor offences, those with expired visas or those who have lost their passports
