Four passengers were injured in a bus accident in the Watawala area on the Hatton-Colombo main road this morning.
The injured were admitted to the Watawala Hospital, police said.
According to police, the accident occurred when a private bus travelling at high speed collided with a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus coming from the opposite direction, causing the rear section of the private bus to split into two.
The incident happened near the Carolina Estate on the Hatton-Colombo main road. The SLTB bus was travelling to Hatton from Ginigathhena, while the private bus was heading to Kandy from Hatton when the accident took place.
Police investigations revealed that the private bus driver had applied the brakes suddenly upon seeing the oncoming SLTB bus. This had caused the private bus to skid and its rear part had collided with the SLTB bus, resulting in the severe damage to the private bus.
The condition of the injured passengers was reported as not critical.
The police urge motorists to exercise caution while driving on the Hatton-Colombo main road, as the roads are slippery due to adverse weather conditions.
