Acting IGP directs police not to stop vehicles while they are in civilian attire

Acting Inspector General of Police, Deshabandu Thennakoon has issued a fresh set of instructions to all police stations, directing them not to halt vehicles for inspections when officers are in civilian clothes while on duty.

These new guidelines were distributed to all police stations yesterday.

These guidelines were issued in response to a tragic incident that unfolded in Narammala on Thursday, involving a Sub Inspector of Police in civilian attire who reportedly opened fire at a lorry driver after the latter allegedly refused to stop his lorry.

It is anyway illegal thing for cops without identifiable uniform to stop vehicles. Those two cops were trying to rob that guy. Driver did the correct thing by not stopping. Action should be taken against DT for giving wrong guidence before.

The story now appears even more disturbing than when it was announced first. How could anyone stop their vehicle when “armed men in civilian clothes” orders them to do so. Why the Acting IGP didn’t issue such an order before the start of this country wide police operation. This is first degree murder, the killer Sub Inspector and the Constable have to face the charges , and the Acting IGP should be suspended and must face the charges of negligence of leadership duty.
