A 22-year-old airman attached to the Katunayake Air Force camp shot himself on the chest while on duty last night, Police said.

They said he was pronounced dead on admission to the Negombo Hospital.

The deceased was identified as Ranuth Hansika Wijerathne of Karandeniya.

Seeduwa police are investigating.
