The Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests carried out on some 1,400 employees of the Minuwangoda apparel factory, where a number Covid-19 positive cases have been reported, were completed, Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said today.
“Now, the associates of the positive cases of the Minuwangoda apparel factory cluster are being traced and PCR tests on them are underway,” Dr. Samaraweera said.
Moreover, he said that the pregnant woman, who tested positive for COVID-19 at the Colombo Castle Street Hospital for Women yesterday, was linked to the Minuwangoda cluster.
“The woman has worked in a company which provides services to the Minuwangoda Apparel factory. Therefore, she falls into the Minuwangoda factory cluster,” Dr. Samaraweera added.
The woman, who developed respiratory difficulties, was subsequently admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH).
Meanwhile, Dr. Samaraweera said the public can contact 1999 hotline for any inquiry related to Covid-19 and health issues on respiratory diseases. This hotline is available 24 hours. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
