Trains can enter WP but cannot leave

All bus services entering and leaving the Western Province will be suspended until Sunday (November 15) midnight, the National Transport Commission (NTC) and Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) said.

They said the decision was taken following the Governments decision to restrict people's movements from the Western Province to other provinces as a majority of Covid-19 cases were reported from the Western Province.

Accordingly, all bus services will be suspended from 10 p.m today.

NTC Chairman Nilan Mirinda said all Inter-Provincial buses will be operated up to up to border limits of the Western Province. However, the bus services operating in the WP will operate as usual.

Meanwhile, the Health sectors had granted permission for trains to services enter the Western Province until Sunday (15) but no permission was granted to leave the WP, the Railways Department said.

Accordingly, trains starting from Beliatta, Kandy, Maho, Puttalam, Avissawella and all other trains services operating on those railway lines will permit to enter the Colombo Fort Train Station tomorrow (12) morning, the Department said.

They said commuters can use trains in the evening to travel back until the last stations bordering the WP such as Aluthgama, Ambepussa, Kochchikade and Avissawella.

All trains operating on other provincials will operate according to the normal time tables. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
