Ampara urology unit on brink of closure

Colombo, August 29 (Daily Mirror) -  The urology unit at the Ampara Hospital faces the threat of closure due to the absence of a qualified urologist, the Daily Mirror learns.

The unit has been without a specialist since August 5, leaving thousands of patients in the lurch.

In response to the growing crisis, the Director of the Ampara Hospital has formally requested the health authorities to urgently fill the vacant position. With many relying on the unit for critical services the shortage of an urologist has severely impacted patient care.

In contrast, the Kuliyapitiya Hospital currently has an urologist, despite there being no pressing need for one.

Hence, the Director has urged the authorities to consider transferring this specialist to the Ampara Hospital or fill the vacancy with another suitable specialist.
