Another jumbo knocked down to death by moving goods train

Puttalam, January 10 (Daily Mirror)- A wild elephant had been knocked down to death at Karadipuwal area between Puttalam and Eluwankulama Railway Stations in the early hours of last morning by a goods train transporting limestone to the Palaviya cement factory in the Puttalam District.

Railway officials said Puttalam – Eluwankulama yard railway line is used only to transport limestone to the cement factory.

Wildlife officers said the wild elephant was about 30 years of age and a well grown male animal. The carcass was lying on the railway line.
