Downsizing Of Government Assets To Save Money Monday, 23 September 2024 01:42 PM
Yes it was. Now he needs to downsize all state assets such as vehicles, security, housing, other perks of officials etc. AKD can start from his own fleet of vehicles and go in reasonable size convoy’s. The others too in government can start trimming the expenditures accordingly. Sell off excess assets to the public with nominal profits. Once AKD sets the example, it will be easy for the others to give up their’s to save money for the country. Remember, SL still is Bankrupt and loans to plus interest needs to be paid from 2026. The more the savings, the better the liquidity for any future issues such as COVID.

You are obviously a opposition stooge. Why don't you let him prove himself and comment accordingly? You can't expect miracles overnight! I was a "kapuwoth kola" and see the state of the country now. RW brought temporary relief and from 2028 we have to cough up and we would be back to queues!

I think it is too early to judge. If large scale corruption is eliminated then there idls some hope. Also, get the freeloaders to do some work even sweeping of roads.

Don't worry too much. If RW's scathing defeat was too much of a sting, best you stay away and take the opportunity to say "I told you so" at a later date.

@Amila Perera, In this government, i have not paid a penny or benefited from "corrupted" politicians, if you are the one these who thinks Anura is going to recover the stolen funds by the Rajapaksas, you are just merely dreaming about. I'm telling you now there is NO chance of recovering the stolen funds by the Rajapaksa family. What i'm concerned is the policies of JVP/NPP which is wholly incompatible with Sri Lanka's current circumstances, Sri Lanka can easily be destroyed or developed depending on goals set by Anura's government, if they choose to slash the essential levies then you can be sure Sri Lanka is going on downhill.

@MrLion, he was just elected, so far , the actions are very positive,no violence, no big ceremonies, simple attire and humble speech. I think he will be good for Sri Lanka. Remember 6.9 m voted for Gota for wanting to have some change, he did well during the first 6 months . Now AKD received 5.7 m votes. The opposition received more votes in total. So if AKD does well then some of the opposition votes will come to him in the parliamentary election.

Wishing AKD all the best – we all hope this will be the first step toward a complete transformation of Sri Lanka, in areas such as discipline, education, economic growth, healthcare, poverty eradication, and upholding judicial independence. If AKD stays true to his principles and avoids being consumed by the immense power of the executive presidency, our children could have a brighter future. We must give him time – 75 years of corruption cannot be undone overnight. Let’s hope this landmark election ushers in a new era, bringing an end to the corrupt and brutal politics that have plagued the country for 76 years, leading to its eventual bankruptcy, largely driven by the Rajapaksas (foremost among the corrupt and criminal). They were followed by the Sirisenas, Premadasas, Bandaranaikes, Jayewardenes, Wickremesinghes, and their cronies. May all perpetrators be brought to justice under a new government that upholds the independence of the judiciary for the first time in our history.

Simple short ceremony with no family members. This is much appreciated by all Sri Lankans. Country saved money on electricity, manpower time, President time, Service chiefs time, dipolmats time, fuel etc. This could be used to even build a room for a poor person.

Congratulations to Anura. Ranil and Sajith also showed their gentlemanly qualities by respecting the verdict given by people. Inauguration was short and simple attended by religious leaders and ambassadors. I am glad that the symbols of our nation the lion flag and the national anthem were given their due respect. This is a very hard earned victory and people have rejected racism and religious chauvinism of Rajapakses.

Sri Mao Bandaranaike as president of our democratic ? Socialist ? republic wanted to visit Malaysia - the Malaysian government rejected her request saying they didn’t want to entertain a communist. Don’t know what is going to happen, AKD thinks that the IMF needs us when it is the other way round. Finally is he going to be another Venezuelan Nickolas Madura who with his policies has brought poverty to his Venezuela

If we develop economically develop and become a rich nation Malaysian will come here. Mrs. Bandaranaike visited Malaysia and she was warmly received by the government and people of Malaysia. How about begging billions from Communist China.

That is absolute misinformation ! Malaysia has been a NAM country since 1970, Sri Lanka since 1961. There is no way they would refuse entry to a head-of-state of a fellow NAM country. I think you should make the effort to learn some history first

Let us hope he keeps his promises and be a good and honest president not surrounded by thieving scumbags that the earlier ones had. He MUST bring to book all the thieves of the previous regimes as he promised. If he does not, he will suffer the same fate as Ranil in 5 years. I am so pleased that the Rajapakses' influence is no more and Namal the hora lawer got 352k stupid people's votes.

A historical day in modern Sri Lankan politics. We wish all the best and congratulation. Your 35 years of hard work and dedication with your dynamic team has paid off and now challenges are ahead of you. your wise thinking with the support of all civil servants will pave the way to develop this nation. It is a collective cooperation of all top level civil servants, is very important to smooth run of the government. They may have different political view and yet, their support is imperative to run this country and take it forward. I hope and pray your excellency will build up a good rapport with all and get this country out of this economic crisis.

Congratulations and very best wishes. Be honest and hard work this term, you can lay the right foundations to make country solvent and prosperous. You will go into history books like Lee Kuan and Nelson Mandela. Previous presidents had that chance but decided to rob the country and now they are like prisoners who have no respect, money they can't declare or travel freely. Hope you learn from their mistakes.

PUT " RIP" (REST IN PEACE /RISE IF POSSIBLE} TO THE CLAN THAT DESTROYED SRI LANKA FOR PERSONAL GAIN. SMOLDERING EMBERS SHOULD BE SNUFFED OUT TO PREVENT RESURGENCE. ongratulations! His leadership is much needed at this critical juncture. If he is truly a leader for all Sri Lankans, he should distance himself from figures like Douglas Devananda (EPDP) and Thondaman Inc. to free the people of the North-East and Upcountry from corruption and exploitation. These individuals have remained in power for too long, like leeches benefiting at the expense of the people. They are very wealthy by corruption, yet no one is investigating them. It’s time for the new president to impartially investigate all corrupt ministers.

For some of us AKD’s election was a certainty, most humbly, I have to say. He is IMO the best leader SL has ever had. But performance as the head of state still awaits judgement. I think people who don’t actually know this man’s intelligence and smartness will see it for themselves, in the days and months to come. I would continue to listen and observe how he tackles the gigantic task ahead of him, to lead this country back from where it is to where his vision is to take it. I expect him to be considerate, consultative, decisive, complete with honesty and integrity. All the best Mr Simple President.I know you’re and will be just a simple man like most of us.

I remember back to 2015 when Sri Lankans voted for the new Alliance with Matripala. But what happened, nothing. All these guys also robbed the country, they were corrupted lie the rjapaksas. rembember of bond scam so on. But now people have so much hope in AKD. But AKD as a marxist will work with China, he will get Billions of $ Dollars of Loans and all the money will go to corrupt JVP politicians and their families. So there is no changes of the politicalculture in sri lanka. Because all people a corrupt in SL

Anura is a man of Action not a big talker. He has to face challenges, challenges, in meeting the aspirations on the people. If the leader is genuine, people will be delighted to sacrifice their needs and wants. Time for people to live in harmony and support Anura Sahaodaraya.

AKD will make lasting change to the existing abusive manipulative system which people need. It is surprising that past leaders didn't take any initiative to curtail waste and abuse. Now that old legacy is over which is a big relief to all. If the government Audit department assess the number of discarded vehicles government should be able to restore many of them. The new government should force the ex-ministers and officials to return all the vehicles back and vacate government residences.
