Colombo, September 12 (Daily Mirror)- Rebuffing President Ranil Wickremesinghe's proposal to invite the IMF for the debate, NPP Presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake today made a fresh challenge to the President for a face-to-face debate on the economic policies.
Speaking at a rally in Ambalantota, he said the debate could be arranged on a popular television channel and any matter regarding the economic policies of the two parties could be debated.
"President Wickremesinghe keeps on posing questions to me on the stage. So, I challenged him for an open debate. Then, he said he would come with the IMF. Is the IMF contesting the election? Ranil is making irresponsible statements," he said.
Dissanayake said the Opposition camp is perturbed about the NPP's victory and said they have started to spread various false news to mislead the people.
"They are now saying the NPP government will change the national flag. We will not change the national flag but only the corrupt and fraudulent politics. The Opposition camp is also saying that there will be unrest and violence after the NPP's victory. We want a peaceful election. This election is a definite win for us. Only the losing camp wants unrest, clashes and instability in society. We request the security forces to maintain law and order in the country before, after and on the election day," he said.
He said some people claim that the economy will collapse after the NPP comes to power and said the economy is already collapsed, adding that the NPP will take over the country to revive the economy which collapsed due to failed policies for the last 76 years.

One should investigate who is funding npp heavily as they never had this much of money at any previous election. Look at the amount of ads running and amount spent for printed material. Extremist organizations may be funding the npp and expecting a total collapse of the country so that they can easily enter the country and run their operations here. Ibrahim nana was a close associate of npp and this may be a clue to start investigation.

Perhaps we also need to find out who is funding the "Independent Candidate" - Where did all his campaign money come from ? Could it be midused tax money ?

Good suggestion. I thought about the same. NPP surely have some connections with secret sources in foreign countries. Those who are blindly supporting NPP have no idea what their leaders are really up to.

Aragalaya was portion of those funding and now all leftovers are being used for election campaign. Possibly drug dealers and underworld. Araglaya was in good shape with good intention but they progressed, the underworld thugs and cruel politicians made use of this platform for their benefit. It was obvious NPP was fully behind the mess as evidence when he walked in was given special treatment none for others including SJB or any others. Sri Lankans, please think multiple times before casting your votes to rogues in any form or leadership. If these leaders weren't part of your struggling economic crisis, then they will never be your leaders with your valuable votes.

DO NOT BE ENVIOUS OF THE FUNDS THE NPP HAVE COLLECTED BY WAY OF CITIZENS HERE AND ABROAD HAVE DONATED TO A WORTHY CAUSE TO GET A NEW PRESIDENT AND GOVT TO RULE THE COUNTRY. THOSE WHO HAVE MIGRATED DONATE AS THEY HAVE SEEN FIRST HAND HOW THE GOVTS IN THE PAST DECADES HAVE OPERATED AND THE MAJORITY ARE LEFT BEHIND TO FEND FOR THEMSELVES WITH NO PROPER EDUCATION, HEALTH SYSTEM AND TRAINING TO HELP THEM GAIN THE SKILLS THEY NEED TO GO OUT AND WORK TO SUPPORT THEIR FAMILY AND BE PRODUCTIVE IN THEIR HOMELAND. THE CORRUPT POLITICIANS ARE GOING ABOUT THEIR OPERATIONS AND FEATHERING THEIR OWN NESTS AND THEIR FAMILIES AND STOOGES. YES THE POLITICANS TOO HAVE CLOSE ASSOCIATES TOO, SO LET'S NOT GO FORGET.

The education and health care system that you seem to be so concerned have always been the tool of the JVP to control and sabotage any government efforts by constantly being on strike for anything. The culprit for the pathetic education and health system is none other than this JVP/NPP

You have the option of hiring a price investigator to do that. Also, make a complaint to the FCID. You think they wouldn’t do anything, if there was anything to do? Don’t speculate without evidence, it’s childish, foolish and plain ridiculous. Also, note that there are many Lankans here and abroad who are willing to donate towards their motherland, expecting nothing in return. Your head will start spinning when funds start flowing to an NPP government for investment. Trust is the word.

I have already pointed out several times that the presidential candidates should be cautious with their promises, which are often exaggerated and deceive the people! The economic situation in Sri Lanka is still catastrophic and the living conditions of the majority of the people are very poor!!! However, as Anura Kumara has now announced again, he will revive the country's economy, which has been destroyed by 76 years of bad politics, after taking office!!! This great announcement must be read several times, especially as he does not say anything more specific about how he intends to accomplish this Herculean task, with what means, and in what time frame!? For me, his promise of reviving the country's economy with the NPP policy known so far remains highly implausible because it is unrealistic!!!

Your thinking is wrong. He will eliminate waste corruption and fraud and bring in law and order. This will encourage diaspora, foreign mega investors and other foreigners in share trading to actively invest and grow the economy. Also, there may be countries that give importance to good governance, may give more aid and loans. When people see the positive changes, they will be motivated and productivity will increase.Volker please open your mind and think without bias.

NPP / JVP are also like that. AKD got many houses without working anywhere and got an MP's from Madiwela, too while having a house in Kadawtha, too. A few days ago, Mount Lavainia courts issued an order to arrest Wasantha Samarasinha and Mahinda Jayasingha as they didn't appear in the courts over their action of swindling money. Lalkantah, too got a case against him. So, how can they be trusted?

THIS ENORMOUS TASK CANNOT BE FIXED OVERNIGHT/HEY! PRESTO, WE THE PEOPLE WILL HAVE TO BE PATIENT, AS DECADES OF CORRUPTION AND MISMANAGEMENT CANNOT BE UNDONE OVERNIGHT. YES! WE THE PEOPLE HAVE SUFFERED FOR DECADES AND ARE STILL SUFFERING AND TREATED LIKE THIRD CLASS CITIZENS. EDUCATION IN AND AROUND COLOMBO AND BIG TOWN ARE ACCEPTABLE, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE SUB STANDARD EDUCATION IN THE POOR AREAS, WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO THEY HAVE AND DO THEY FOLLOW THE COLOMBO/ EDUCATION MINISTRY'S SYSTEM THAT SHOULD BE STANDARD IN ALL SCHOOLS. EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION IN VILLAGES SHOULD BE COMPULSORY/FREE. SAFE AND SECURE BUILDINGS SHOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE TO SET UP CENTRES. ADULTS SHOULD BE GIVEN A CHANCE TO LEARN ENGLISH TOO FREE OF CHARGE IN VILLAGES. WE TREAT OUR POOR "LIKE SOMETHING THE CAT BROUGHT IN".

Firstly you are correct in one thing I.e. the incumbent should have requested the Election Commission to include "IMF" as an election symbol and he should have chosen it as he is pinning all his hopes on the IMF deal giving scant regard to other burning problems faced by the people and the question of inviting the IMF for a debate does not arise as he is the living witness of the IMF and secondly there is a wide-spread notion spreading in the society that the JVP - your boss - would create a fear psychosis in the country by organising strikes across all sectors of the economy, both public and private as almost all trade unions are affiliated to it in the event the main opposition candidate emerges victorious in the election.

RW is not in the right frame of mind. Should seriously look into bringing in a compulsory retirement age for MPs (i.e. 75). This would free up opportunities for younger people.

Anura, the presidential candidate, wisely rejected Ranil Wickremesinghe's absurd proposal to involve the IMF in the nation's political discourse. Wickremesinghe is turning the IMF into a spectacle, prompting citizens to question whether the IMF has now become a political entity in Sri Lanka. His invitation to an international financial institution for a domestic political debate is a brazen and shameless act. Instead, there should be a thorough investigation into why the country has sought IMF assistance 17 times without the people's mandate. The United National Party (UNP), having held power for much of this period, bears significant responsibility for the nation's economic decline. This is a clear cut evidence that abusive politicians sold this country.

Exactly. IMF should not be involved in any political debate over presidential election. Ranil is showing his senility by saying stupid statements. Did anyone see the video where he is asked what to say to relatives of a gravely ill person? His answer ask them to write his obituary? I am flabbergasted by this insensitive remark from a presidential candidate. It should be even a joke. Ranil's ageing brain is not reconizing what ai acceptable and what is not.

NPP believes in Marxism, which is the bedrock of NPP's economic policy. Though they expound market-based approach to economic management on political platforms, if they come to power by a mistake, Sri Lanka will be immediately converted into an authoritarian Communist state. Wealth of people will be impounded to fund a welfare state. Solid economic principles will be discarded to bins. Innocent children will be brainwashed with Marxist ideas staring from grade 1. There will be no place for religion. Entrepreneurship will be killed, and government will, though futile, try to produce all goods and services. This will eventually fail and there will be severe shortages of essential goods and service. Sri Lanka will be a secluded nation. Then the people will wake up from their deep slumber, but, alas, it will be too late!

Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka claimed in last night's satana program that the viyathmaga has captured the JVP whch he said has only 500,000 nembers. AKD should clarify this because some of his claimed economic policies are local production and no imports. Elsewhere he says the local market is too small to compete globally. This is exactly the type of policy confusion that led to the economic collapse under viyathmaga version1. Eliminating corruption is a great slogan but was not a visible objective under the previous viyathmaga. Are gullible voters being fooled again by pseudo academics?

Ranil wants IMF involved so they can educate you on borrowing money and stabilizing the economy. AKD/JVP have no proven record of managing an economy and government. They are anti-government, anti-prosperity and have no diplomatic experience with world organizations. So AKD should humble himself and learn the ropes before trying to bite off more than he can chew.

Only way to develop Sri Lanka is to stop the waste of tax money/corruption and invest/develop in right projects which will benefit the country and the people. There is no point of filling water to a bucket which has a big hole, only water will be wasted and never fills. Same theory applies to economy as well.
