Anura responds to handshake with Namal: Says correct gesture than refusing handshake
Colombo, August 19 (Daily Mirror)- Commenting on the interaction with SLPP Presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa at the Election Secretariat, NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today it was a normal political incident and that it was correct than declining a handshake.
Responding to a question on the conversation with Rajapaksa, he told the media that they did not discuss anything special.
"I just asked 'How are you malli (brother)?' If I want, I can tell to his face that his father and family had looted public funds or I can shake hands as a good gesture. Shaking hands and our policies have no connection. It is only a political incident," he said.
Dissanayake said it is normal human quality to stand up and accept when someone offers a handshake.
"You see how people criticise the incident of refusing the President's handshake. How conceited he was. What we did is correct. Refusal of a handshake is wrong,' he said.

Correct. Now be humble and get in the votes. Once in power, start the legal process of getting the wrong doers over the years! Be it corruption or the unresolved sensational murder cases and Easter Bombings. Give assurances on how your party will handle the economic situation, what main taxes will be maintained, which government agencies will downsized and so on. List out your targets to achieve yearly for the next 5years will be an added bonus too. Remember, the economic situation and country’s crucial infrastructure / services too must be overhauled. Lots of work to be done and lots of sleepless nites for the next 5 years. Is your “A” ready to take up the challenges or will step down once the going gets tougher?

Great comment. AKD has already spoken a lot about their vision and numerous policies that have been put together by professional teams over the last year. Formal written policies are just coming out. The main thing is that people who want SL to go forward need to support their efforts to which AKD will provide leadership as never seen before in SL. A great future lies ahead IMO.

Namal is a new generation leader who comes through as open minded, not petty and gets along with everyone. He offered his opponent a handshake and from the photo you can see his genuine happiness and smile when speaking with AKD. Namal also stands in a more confident and commanding way. These gentlemanly qualities are built from sportsmanship. AKD responded appropriately though petty minded people would have liked him to act like thug towards Namal.

Anura is a good Gentleman, and what he did was correct and appropriate. There is no personal anonymity between them. This is an example of How Sri Lanka will be run under his leadership. I appeal to all of my fellow Tamils: not to waste your votes by voting for any minority candidate, as they will never win. The only option left with the other three candidates. Aunara belongs to the younger generation, and he can bring new ideas to the country's development. Politics is some thing but humanism and sense of humour is another matter ..You can have different political opinions among family members father can be from one party and children can be from another, husband can be from one party and wife can be from another..so don't mix up two ..it is an Asian mentality to hold grudge over politics.
