Parliament, July 24 (Daily Mirror)- While welcoming the Cabinet decision to tender an apology for ordering the cremation of Covid-19 victims during the pandemic, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today proposed paying compensation to those who were affected by the decision.

"You cannot get away by tendering an apology. Compensation should be paid to those who were affected," Premadasa said.

MP A.L.M. Athaullah and Mujibur Rahman called for penalizing those who were responsible for the decision.
MP Harsha de Silva called for bringing a motion to ensure truth, reconciliation, accountability and reparation towards the affected groups.

"The truth behind the wrong decision should be known to determine who is responsible for it and how one should be accountable for it. It will be possible to bring in reconciliation if these steps are taken," he said.
