Colombo ,October 29 (Daily Mirror)- Cabinet spokesman and Minister Vijitha Herath today requested that public to apply for passports at the Immigration & Emigration Department only for urgent matters.

Addressing the media, he stated that those needing passports for long-term purposes can wait, as the Department has received sufficient stocks.

Currently, a total of 1,600 passports are being issued daily at the Department to meet the demand.

This is exactly what previous government said. Looks like new government follows the previous one. Little disappointed. Getting a passport is not like getting an ambulance

Check out what most of the people who are in the queue are telling. It was in the news. They don’t even have a clue to why they are getting a passport. A government cannot change the foolishness of majority of the Sri Lankans.

Even for one day service, need to obtain the token and at least need to wait for a month to get the passport. This has been a issue for many months.

Passport poling is not new to SL. Better give appointment date on line to call over at Passport Department to apply or collect passports

A passport is obtained by anyone not for the fun of it as the government has a preconceived opinion that there is no urgency. Sometimes the government is talking rubbish on the premise that some of these passports are not used through statistics of overseas travel. No one can come to the conclusion that the passport is not used because they do not have information of the requirement by employers overseas requesting to annex a copy of their passport for consideration in obtaining a job. Unless Sri Lankans are equipped with a valid passport they miss the opportunity of seeking a job overseas and the chances are lost for some other applicants from another country because of this requirement. The government should first get their priorities correct in issuing a passport to Sri Lankans without giving flimsy reasons like urgency which they do not understand when only the applicant only has the answer!!!!

Passport issuance will never go back to the way it was! Not getting stocks is a lame excuse. People need a passport to get on with their lives and no government has ever made it a seamless and hassle-free service for the people. If you want to progress as a country then take care of the little things first.

NPP cannot bring passport stock within few days. These shortages are due to lack of planning by previous governments. Don't worry after 6 months , many things will become fixed. Be patient guys.

life in this country is becoming bad to worst . Dont ever assume just because of anura is in power every thing is going to be ok but its not. Every things is like buying a lottery if you are lucky things will go on your direction if not you will be wasting time for days and days.

Issuance of passports must be started with an online application. Wasting time on queues must be eliminated completely. Imagine how old people stay in queues to obtain a passport.
