Aragalaya causes Rs.5 million in damages to Galle Face: Ministry

Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has instructed the UDA to initiate legal action to recover money from the activists of the Aragalaya for the damage

The damage caused to the Galle Face Green due to the Aragalaya has been estimated at Rs. 5 million, a statement from the Housing and Urban Development Ministry said.

The Urban Development Authority (UDA) has estimated the damage done to the ground because of the GotaGoGama protest campaign carried out for three months.

According to the report submitted by the UDA, it will incur Rs. 150,000 for basic landscaping and another Rs. 4.7 million for grass sodding.

The statement said Minister Prasanna Ranatunga instructed the UDA to initiate legal action to recover money from the activists of the Aragalaya for the damage.

The Galle Face Green is a public property coming under the purview of the UDA.

Five million is a very big amount but when compared with the commission income of Rajapakshas and his ministers this amount will be a few cents. If the govt was honest and done a clean work this Aragalaya wouldn't have taken place. Now you all are speaking like gentlemen but in real life you all are big rubbers of our wealth.

That's valuation is a drop in the ocean, in comparison to all the losses through corruption and negligence, also the Aragalaya was by the people of Sri Lanka for the people.
