Arrest warrant on Southern Province CM

An arrest warrant was issued on Southern Province Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal De Silva because he was not present in Court when a case against him was taken up for hearing at the Galle Magistrate’s Court today.

A case had been filed against the Chief Minister and two others on charges of violating election laws by distributing leaflets with the intention of influencing postal voters during the January 8 presidential election.

Galle Chief Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura also directed that notice be issued on his sureties.
The chief minister’s lawyer informed court that his client was unable to be present in Court because he was abroad. (D.G. Sugathapala)
