Asanga Abeygunasekara arrested at BIA over open warrant

Colombo, July 21 (Daily Mirror) - Former Director of the Institute of National Security Studies, Asanga Abeygunasekara, was arrested this morning at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

Police detained him at the arrival terminal following the issuing of an arrest warrant by the Inland Revenue Department related to a case against him.

Abeygunasekara is the son of Ossie Abeygunasekera, former leader of the Sri Lanka Mahajana Pakshaya (SLMP).

He was one of the 1st people to openly say that the Easter Sunday attack was `Staged` soon after the incident. RW nor anyone in Govt will help him.

IRD cases are Bailable and he will be out on bail. The issue is IRD has to collect a few Billions in defaulted taxes but doesn't take steps to recover as the defaulters could be businessmen and others connected to politicians. No action against those defaulters

Inland Revenue Department lol with practically no action against millions who are miraculously rich. It looks like as usual the government using state powers to suppress dissent.

Not sure what point you are trying to make. How is the IRD enforcing the law against defaulters who have flown aboard using state powers to suppress dissent? Do you even know what that means? Seems like a union supporter that is using the latest trending terms. In the first half you complain there are so many defaulters (in which you have no idea what investigations are being done) and the latter half you complain they are suppressing dissent by enforcing the law to arrest defaulters.
