Asian Games champs return home

The Sri Lanka athletics team that won four medals at the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, returned home during the early hours of this morning.

A large number of well-wishers, including family members, past and present students and staff members of A. Ratnayake Central College, Walalla, officers of the Sri Lanka Army etc. were among those present to welcome the team that won a gold, a silver and two bronze medals at the Games.

Tharushi Karunaratne won Sri Lanka's only gold medal in the Women's 800m event while Dilhani Lekamge was the first to give Sri Lanka a medal, claiming the silver in the Women's Javelin Throw.

The Sri Lanka Men's and Women's 4x400m relay team claimed a bronze medal each.
