At least 900 bank accounts blocked to recover outstanding tax: Siyambalapitiya

Colombo, August 26 (Daily Mirror) - A total of 900 bank accounts have been blocked in a move to recover outstanding tax arrears, Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.

Despite accusations of improper tax collection, the government has taken effective steps to recover these arrears, marking a significant effort to boost state revenue, he said.

The State Minister assured that the government is committed to managing state revenue responsibly.

He also said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) does not intend to create issues for the country but has consistently monitored its financial management.

If anyone aims to return the country to its situation from two years ago, they may consider revising the IMF agreement if they come to power, he added.

However, the State Minister highlighted that the current agreement was reached after extensive discussions to prevent the recurrence of past financial problems, and therefore, no changes are necessary.
