Colombo, September 16 (Daily Mirror) - President Ranil Wickremesinghe has pledged to bring in a legislation to ban corporal punishment soon.

“The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to amend the Penal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code to prohibit corporal punishment in all forms. This milestone achievement comes after more than 20 years of efforts by child protection activists. Once gazetted, the bill will be presented to Parliament for final approval,” he said in his latest X message.

Banning Corporal punishment Bill, should be amended with the exception of corrupt politicians. How many bills passed by this government in the last month clearly indicates your integrity. You will lose more votes by this corrupt behavior.

It's commendable that such a move has been made. However, it's surprising that even the type of punishment used at a particular housing complex is now banned. What about the (eg: lāchchu) treatment of some people arrested on suspicion by the police?
