Colombo, Dec 17 (Daily Mirror) - The Colombo High Court today served indictments on a biomedical engineer attached to the Biomedical Engineering Unit of the Health Ministry for allegedly causing a financial loss to the government during the procurement of 35 operating theater lamps.
When the accused, Janapriya Karunatilleke, appeared before Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe, he was ordered to be released on a cash bail of Rs. 25,000, with two sureties of Rs. 2.5 million each. He was also barred from leaving the country until the conclusion of the trial.
The Bribery Commission filed indictments against the accused under Section 70 of the Bribery Act, alleging corruption in connection with the Health Ministry tender for purchasing the 35 operating theater lamps between April 7, 2015 and July 15, 2016.
The case was fixed for a pre-trial hearing on January 30, 2025.
