Bribery Commission member has accepted a bribe: Minister

A member of the Bribery Commission has accepted a bribe for filing legal action against the newly enacted Anti-Corruption Bill, Minister of Justice Wijedasa Rajapaksha told Parliament today.

“The bribe has come in the form of a promotion for filing legal action against the Anti-Corruption Bill,” the Minister alleged.

The Minister made this remark in response to a ruling by the Speaker over the allegation by him and MP Mahindananda Aluthgmage that the Constitutional Council has failed to appoint members to the Bribery Commission.

“Also, the members of the Bribery Commission have written to the Constitutional Council, threatening all ten members of the council. How can the members of the Bribery Commission threaten the constitutional council," the Minister questioned.

“We did not have any intention to insult the Constitutional Council,” he also said. (Yohan Perera)
