Bribery Commission nabs two Police Officers for soliciting Rs. 10,000 bribe

Narammala, Jan 17 (Daily Mirror) - Officials from the Bribery Commission arrested a Sub Inspector of Police and a Police Constable at a residence in Narammala yesterday on charges of soliciting a bribe amounting to Rs. 10,000.

The arrest was made following a complaint by an individual in Narammala.

According to the Bribery Commission, the Sub Inspector and Constable had allegedly demanded a bribe from an individual engaged in the illicit liquor trade in Narammala.

The bribe was reportedly sought in exchange for a promise not to pursue legal action in the future regarding the sale of illicit liquor.

The arrested suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate's Court.

10,000 Rs? Peanuts! Politicians wouldn't even get out of bed in the morning for that amount. Why does the Bribery Commission deal with such lousy matters when there are enough cases worth solving in the billions? The serious cases should be dealt with first, which is beneficial for the population and then you can take care of the petty corrupt ones.

From the facts reported the Cops have only solicited a bribe from a person involved in illicit liquor trade. Not caught in the act of collecting but arrested on the word of the complainant. This may not stand in court
