Buffalo attacks elderly man causing serious injuries

THALAWAKELE (Daily Mirror) - A buffalo that broke into the High Forest town in Kandapola attacked an elderly man who was near a shop, causing serious injuries to him, the High Forest police said.

According to the residents, the victim, an 84-year-old resident of High Forest, is the oldest person in the area.

Police took immediate steps to admit the injured person to High Forest Divisional Hospital for treatment and subsequently transferred him to the Nuwara Eliya General Hospital for further treatment.

Residents said the buffalo may have entered High Forest town from a forest in the Bongantalawa area.

It is reported that the buffalo encountered the elderly man while running around the town, charged at him, and began attacking him until he fell to the ground.

They also said that as the buffalo approached the elderly man, he attempted to ward it off by stretching out the walking stick in his hand. However, the buffalo threw him to the ground and continued its attack.

Due to the screams of people nearby, the buffalo fled from the scene. The incident was captured by a CCTV camera in a nearby shop.
