Bus fare to be reduced by 4%, minimum fare will be Rs. 25: Anjana

Colombo, October 1 (Daily Mirror) - The Inter Provincial Private Bus Association (IPPBA) has decided to reduce bus fares by four percent while bringing the minimum fare to Rs. 25.

Addressing the media, IPPBA Chief Secretary Anjana Priyanjith said the total bus fare was reduced by Rs. 34 considering the last month and this month's fuel price revisions.

Rs. 24 was reduced for a litre of auto diesel from last night, and Rs. 10 was reduced in the fuel price revision in September.

Therefore, the benefit of the fuel revision must be granted to the passengers. Accordingly, the Chief Secretary requested the authorities to reduce the bus fares to a round figure where passengers will not be inconvenienced when paying bus fares.

There is no issue with bringing the minimum bus fare to Rs. 25. Even though the calculations for the minimum bus fare were unable to be calculated, the bus owners can manage with making the minimum bus fare to Rs. 25. The current minimum bus fare is Rs. 28.
