Businessman Lalith Kotelawala passes away

Founding chairman of Seylan Bank and former chairman of Ceylinco Consolidated Deshmanya Deshabandu Lalith Kotelawala has passed away at the age of 84, family sources confirmed.

They said that he passed away while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo this morning

A visionary enterpruner who built up his empire sans political patronage. Trusted hires let him down. His plan and desire to remedy the wrong was not given an opportunity to play out. Unfortunately he backed the wrong horse in the power play and earned the wrath of the other side. Further there were too any spoils to attract the vultures. His legacy will live on for decades to come. For those who lost out much due to the failures the pain will continue to reverberate.

I agree with all the comments made. He was a good businessman but some investments went awry with many investors not getting their deposits or any part or portion of the profits. The Directorate of his Companies became rich and to-date the investors are suffering

It was sad to hear when he related at an interview that ,how he was fooled by Rajapakshas to elicit millions funds to built a Play ground in homagama promising to named the ground in his name but finally it was named as Mahinda Rajapaksha play ground. He further said that he was sad of this ungrateful gesture of The former president.

He hailed from a very renowned n famous SL family. I had the opportunity to meet him when I appeared for an interview at the Seylan Bank. He was the Chairman of the Bank. He spoke to me well thou I cudnt join them due to better offer I got from overseas. I still remember the meeting with him. Sad to hear his demise. Let him RIP. Condolence to his family.

Rajapakshas' did everything to break this guy and steal his money. After breaking him and his companies Gota and other henchman were put on to directorships of his companies while he was on trial. How shameful. After Rajapakshas' destroyed everything, he even came up with a plan to re-pay the investors but cunning Rajapakshas' were too greedy for his money. Mahinda get ready to face him soon.
